Thales Group Standardizes On Innoveda Solution
Global Electronics Giant Selects Visual Elite Software For Design Flow
MARLBORO, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 31, 2002--Innoveda, Inc.
(Nasdaq: INOV - news), a leading provider of innovative software and services
for the design of advanced electronic products, today announced that
Thales Group is standardizing on Visual Elite(TM) technology as its
solution for advanced HDL and system-level design. Thales chose
Innoveda's Visual Elite solution for its superior technology, high
level of functionality and ease of use.
Established in France more than a century ago, Thales is a global
electronics company serving the aerospace, defense and information
technology markets. With 65,000 employees and operations in more than
30 countries, the Thales Group generated 8.6 billion euros in revenues
in 2000.
Compelling Benefits
According to Yves Boccon-Gibod, manager of Thales' Research and
Technology Hardware Engineering Department, "We chose Visual Elite to
help standardize our design flow for complex FPGA design. This flow
requires the most advanced software technology to handle increasing
design complexity and enable design collaboration across multiple
design units and sites. Innoveda has worked with us to tightly
integrate Visual Elite with our group-wide ATDM design flow, achieving
a solution tailored to our needs that also leverages our previous
investments."
Thales first selected Innoveda solutions in 1998, to support
design entry for complex FPGAs using HDL. Its Research and Technology
Engineering Department is responsible for the support and development
of tools and methodology throughout the group.
Franz Maidl, Innoveda's vice president and general manager of
European Operations, added, "Use of the Visual Elite suite will enable
Thales to strengthen its ATDM design flow, increase collaboration
among design teams, optimize costs on a global basis and maximize
productivity group-wide. By working together to integrate the software
and design flow, Thales and Innoveda are empowering the group to
operate confidently in the emerging technology markets of the new
millennium."
About ATDM
ATDM (Atelier Thales de Developpement Materiel) is an internal
technical "portal" that integrates and streamlines usage of all EDA
tools in Thales' design flow. Visual Elite and ATDM now are highly
integrated, resulting in a tighter HDL flow. Standardizing on Visual
Elite has helped the central Research and Technology Hardware
Engineering Department extend the FPGA variant of the ATDM to all
design groups.
Visual Elite currently is installed in a majority of Thales design
sites across Europe. Some groups in France have been using Visual
Elite or its predecessor, Visual HDL(TM), for more than five years.
Thales plans to standardize on Visual Elite globally, using the block
diagram feature as a foundation and allowing individual groups the
freedom to upgrade and use additional editors.
About Visual Elite
Visual Elite supports "system-level down to Register Transfer
Level (RTL)" design methodologies and languages, providing hardware
engineers and system architects with an environment to capture, verify
and analyze system-level functionality and architectures and their
associated hardware implementation. Users can create high-level
functional and architectural models, and estimate the performance of
the functional model for hardware/software partitioning. Visual Elite
enables such high-level events and data flow functions as bus or
network transactions, data-processing events, cause-and-effect
relationships, and error conditions in the system to be defined. Users
can design at various levels of abstraction encompassing system-level
design through RTL implementation and verification, using mixed
SystemC, C/C++, VHDL, and Verilog modeling. It accommodates both text
experts and graphical designers.
About Thales
Headquartered in France, Thales is a proven partner for the global
aerospace community, the only truly multinational player in the
defense industry, and a provider of professional IT solutions and
services. Across all three business areas, which follow different
business models but rely on many of the same technologies and skills
sets, synergy and teamwork translate into tangible benefits for
customers.
The Thales Group has dual technology capability in commercial and
military applications. This is one of its most significant competitive
advantages in today's market for total security solutions. The global
scale of the Thales Group's commercial operations and the unique
multi-domestic development model of its defense business bring the
benefits of globalization to customers in all sectors.
